Year 6 had an amazing few days visiting Stanley Head and taking part in lots of activities to develop their geographical skills. They did mapping skills, looked at ordinance survey symbols, an orienteering activity onsite. They then used maps to navigate around Bagnall village. On the second day, they took part in a river study of the River Dane, starting at the source on the moors near Buxton and lower down measured the flow and profile of the riverbed. Year 6 discovered that the ground was peaty and they could feel it bounce when they jumped! They also discovered that the ground holds A LOT of water - as Mr Amison discovered when he missed his footing! See if you can spot him on these pictures!
A huge well done to our Year 6 children! You worked so hard, had a great time and were fantastic role models for our school.
A very big well done to our cross country team who recently took part in their first Hanley town school's race at Birches Head Academy. Conditions were very challenging and the course was difficult but all our children persevered and showed great team spirit in encouraging each other to complete their races which they all successfully did. There were well over fifty children from Hanley taking part. Special mention to Daisy who finished 17th and Essa and Jordan who both finished in 20th place.
Well done to our boy’s year 5 and 6 football team who recently took part in a competition at SCFC Power League. The boys showed real determination, team spirit and enthusiasm in all of their matches. As always, behaviour was excellent and they represented our school so well!
Some of our year 4 children took part in an indoor athletics competition at Fenton Manor Leisure Centre. They participated in events such as speed bounce, relays, long jump and obstacle races.
Competition was fierce and the children all put excellent effort into their races and events. A big well done for working so hard everyone and representing our school so very well.
This week, KS2 have enjoyed a fabulous visit from Scott Walker a physicist, who brought along his ‘StarLab’. Our children had a tour of our solar system, Mars and explored the use of robots in space. It was a wonderful experience and we hope to have Scott return next year for our younger pupils.
We had a special visit from our past pupil Luo Chen He, who is a current pupil at Co-Op Academy.
He developed his love of reading and writing at Hanley St Luke's and has gone on to nurture and develop this at high school.
Talented Luo Chen has won an award for his excellent writing and as a result was able to meet Queen Camilla and many famous authors.
We are so proud of Luo Chen.
He delivered an assembly for over 300 of our children, and at the age of just 13 that was no mean feat!
Through doing this he inspired many of our children further to nurture their love of reading and writing.
Thank you Luo Chen and Mrs Corbally of Co-Op Academy!
On Friday 27th September we celebrated European Day of Languages. The children came to school in Spanish dress, Spanish football tops, anything red or yellow. Alternatively, some children came dressed representing another European country. There were lots of special activities in class and the children had a brilliant day. Hola!

City Swimming
A very big well done to our KS2 athletics team who took part in the City finals at Northwood stadium representing Hanley. A special mention to Jude who became city champion in the sack race event. A fantastic achievement being the best year 5 boy throughout the city!
