    🌟 Welcome to Year 4!

    Year 4 is a fantastic year full of exciting discoveries, creativity and new challenges. Pupils continue to grow in confidence and independence while exploring fascinating topics from Ancient Greece and Ancient Egypt to electricity, sound and volcanoes. Through engaging lessons, practical investigations and memorable experiences, children will deepen their knowledge and develop a lifelong love of learning. 

    📚 English in Year 4

    English Adventures
    This year our reading and writing will be inspired by a range of exciting texts that spark imagination, adventure and curiosity.
    Our core books include:

    • Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone
    • How to Train Your Dragon
    • The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe

    Our guided reading texts include The Abominables, Butterfly Lion, The Egyptian Cinderella and a range of poetry and non-fiction texts that broaden children's understanding of the world. 

    In English we will develop vocabulary, reading fluency and writing skills through character descriptions, narratives, diary entries, persuasive writing, reports and letters. 

    ✝️ Bible Story Focus

    Our class Bible story is Abraham and the Starry Sky, which reminds us that:

    God loves us and always keeps His promises.

    This story encourages faith, trust and hope — values that we explore throughout the year in our reflections, worship and daily life.

    Science

    Year 4 scientists will explore exciting topics through experiments and investigations.

    We will study:

    • Electricity – constructing simple circuits and investigating conductors and insulators.
    • States of Matter – exploring solids, liquids, gases and the water cycle.
    • Sound – investigating how vibrations create sound.
    • Living Things and Their Habitats – classifying living things and understanding environmental change.
    • Animals Including Humans – learning about digestion, teeth and food chains.

    Children will work scientifically by observing, predicting, testing, recording and evaluating their findings.

    History and Geography

    Our humanities topics will take pupils on exciting journeys through history and around the world.

    History

    • Ancient Greece – exploring Greek achievements and their influence on the modern world.
    • Ancient Egypt – discovering one of the world's earliest civilisations and their incredible achievements.
    • Black History Month – learning about inspirational figures including Ade Adepitan.
    • Local History Week – exploring our local heritage. 

    Geography

    • Locality Study – developing mapping and fieldwork skills in our local area.
    • Weather and Climate – investigating climate zones and global weather patterns.
    • Italy – comparing Campania with our local region and studying volcanoes and earthquakes.
    • Map Skills – using compass points, grid references and digital mapping tools.

    • Please ensure children come to school in the correct PE kit on their PE days. Full details can be found in our school Uniform Policy and on your child's Class Dojo.

    Throughout the year, pupils will enjoy basketball, gymnastics, hockey, dance, cricket, athletics, rounders, table tennis and swimming.
