  • AI Digital Literacy at Hanley St Luke’s

Preparing Our Children for the Future

At Hanley St Luke’s, we are committed to preparing our children for the future by developing their digital literacy and understanding of Artificial Intelligence through the Three Spires Trust Next Gen Curriculum.

Year 5 and 6 pupils are taking part in the Three Spires Trust Next Gen Curriculum, developing their digital literacy and understanding of artificial intelligence through hands-on AI lessons, with Year 6 applying their learning by completing a Bird Net project that uses AI to identify birds, as part of our commitment to preparing children for the future.

Year 5 – AI Digital Literacy

Our Year 5 pupils begin their AI journey by building a strong foundation in digital literacy. They learn to:

    • Understand AI by recognising where it is used in everyday life and how it supports modern technology.

    • Use AI as a Learning Tool through exploring child-friendly tools such as voice assistants and chatbots.

    • Explore Ethics and Bias in AI, discussing fairness and how technology can affect different people.

    • Develop Online Safety and Data Protection skills, learning how to keep personal information safe online.

    • Build Critical Thinking, practising how to spot the difference between real and AI-generated images or content.

Year 6 – BirdNet AI Project

In Year 6, pupils apply their learning through the exciting BirdNet AI Project, which allows them to use AI to identify birds and explore how intelligent systems work in real life. During this project, pupils will:

    • Deepen their understanding of AI, exploring how algorithms and large language models work and their impact on society.

    • Use AI as a Learning Tool by designing and evaluating prompts for writing, revision and presentations.

    • Debate Ethics and Bias in AI, using real-world examples to discuss fairness, accountability and responsible use.

    • Strengthen Online Safety skills, learning about AI-enabled risks such as deepfakes, phishing and voice cloning.

    • Develop Critical Awareness, evaluating AI-generated content for accuracy, bias and ethical concerns.

Through this innovative curriculum, Hanley St Luke’s ensures that our pupils are confident, informed and responsible digital citizens, ready for the opportunities and challenges of the future.
