💙💛 ANAPHYLAXIS KITT – KEEPING OUR CHILDREN SAFE 💛💙

At Hanley St Luke’s, we take allergies and anaphylaxis very seriously. We have an Anaphylaxis KITT in school to provide an additional layer of protection in an emergency.

🚨 What is an Anaphylaxis KITT?

An Anaphylaxis KITT is an emergency kit containing adrenaline auto-injectors (AAIs) and the equipment needed to support a child experiencing a suspected anaphylactic reaction.

The kit is kept in school so that emergency treatment can be accessed quickly, rather than relying solely on a child’s own prescribed medication being immediately available.

💉 How does it work?

If a child experiences symptoms of anaphylaxis, trained staff will follow the school’s emergency procedures.

Adrenaline is the first-line treatment for anaphylaxis and should be given promptly when anaphylaxis is suspected.

👩‍🏫 Our staff

Staff are vigilant and receive information and training around allergies and anaphylaxis. We also have procedures in place to ensure that emergency medication and allergy information can be accessed quickly when needed.

❤️ What does this mean for parents?

Please tell us if your child has an allergy, particularly if they have been newly diagnosed or their allergy or medication has changed.

If your child has been prescribed their own adrenaline auto-injector, please ensure that school has the required medication and up-to-date information.

🥜 A very important reminder: Please do not send food or other items containing nuts into school. For some children, even very small amounts can cause a serious allergic reaction.
