๐ŸŒŸ Supporting Every Family at Hanley St Luke’s: Poverty Proofing the School Day

At Hanley St Luke’s, we want every child to feel included, supported, and able to take part in everything our school offers—no matter their financial situation. That’s why we follow a Poverty Proofing approach to reduce the cost of the school day and remove barriers for families.

๐Ÿ‘• Affordable & Inclusive School Uniform
We keep uniform costs as low as possible by limiting branded items to just three pieces:

      Sweatshirt or cardigan
      Polo shirt
      PE top

All other items can be bought from any retailer in the correct colours. Preโ€‘loved uniform is always available, and we can provide uniform or PE kit if needed.

๐Ÿงฅ Helping With Clothing & Essentials
We offer coat, footwear, and clothing giveaways throughout the year. Items from lost property that have been unclaimed for three months are added to our preโ€‘loved stock for families to access.

      ๐ŸŽจ Lowโ€‘Cost Theme & Nonโ€‘Uniform Days
To avoid extra costs, we keep nonโ€‘uniform and dressโ€‘up days to a minimum and choose themes based on clothes families are likely to already have—such as pyjamas, simple colour themes, or everyday clothing.

๐Ÿ’› Making School Accessible for All
We use our funding carefully to ensure every child can access school activities, experiences, and resources, helping all pupils to thrive and fully participate in school life.

Celebrating reading, curiosity and the incredible role of STEM!

As part of British Science Week, we’re excited to share book recommendations that inspire children from EYFS to Year 6 to explore the amazing world of STEM. Reading STEM-themed stories together can spark curiosity, build problemโ€‘solving skills and help children see how science and creativity shape the world around us.

โœจ It’s also important to highlight the vital role that women and girls have played — and continue to play — in STEM, and to ensure children see positive role models who show that STEM is for everyone. [booktrust.org.uk]

To help you explore STEM through reading at home, here are three trusted booklists:

๐Ÿ” 1. BookTrust: Books to Engage Children with STEM

    • Year 5 Cracks the Code: Exciting Cyber Security Workshop!

      Published 09/02/26

Year 5 enjoyed an exciting Cyber Security workshop

The children explored how codes work by encrypting and decrypting messages, while learning why strong, smart passwords are so important. They also discovered some of history’s most famous codebreakers, including Alan Turing and Gordon Welchman, and used the Caesar Shift to create their own secret messages.

To finish, the children took on a challenge to crack a ‘safe’ by using technology to decrypt passwords, messages and images. A brilliant mix of history, problem-solving and digital skills!

๐ŸŒŸ World Book Day Costume Bank – We Need Your Help! ๐ŸŒŸ

Do you have any World Book Day costumes that no longer fit your child? Instead of letting them gather dust at home, why not donate them to our school?

We are creating a Costume Bank so that other children can borrow and enjoy them for future World Book Day celebrations.

      How you can help:

      * Check your wardrobe for any costumes your child has outgrown.

      * Bring them to the school office or your child’s class.

      * Make sure they’re clean and in good condition.

Your generosity will help make World Book Day fun and accessible for every child!

Thank you for helping us spread the love of reading and imagination! ๐Ÿ“šโœจ

      Published 01/02/26

On Tuesday, we paused as a school community to remember Holocaust Memorial Day. Throughout the day, pupils and staff took time to reflect on the importance of remembering those who were persecuted and lost their lives, and to consider the lessons this day teaches us. Across our school, discussions and quiet moments of reflection reminded us of the power of kindness, respect, and understanding. We reflected on our shared responsibility to stand against hatred and prejudice, and to show love and compassion to all, today and every day.

It has been a pleasure to see the children’s ideas come to life — from their suggestions shared in the summer term such as comfy seating, calm areas, books about animals, more reading clubs, and a space to relax, chill out and get lost in a book, to helping design and put those ideas together.

We truly hope our new library will be a welcoming place for all of our children to enjoy for many years to come. ๐Ÿ“šโœจ
