This year at Hanley St Luke’s, we are proud to celebrate Sir Stanley Matthews Day, honoring one of our most famous former pupils! Sir Stanley was not only a legendary footballer but also an inspiring role model, remembered for his dedication, sportsmanship, and perseverance.

Our pupils will take part in fun and engaging activities led by our PE Ambassadors, with each year group focusing on a special theme:

• EYFS: The Joy of Movement and Play

• Year 1: Health and Nutrition

• Year 2: Teamwork

• Year 3: Resilience

• Year 4: Leadership

• Year 5: Innovation

• Year 6: Life-long Learning

The day is all about celebrating Sir Stanley’s achievements, getting active, and learning from the values he stood for. We can’t wait to see our pupils having fun, staying active, and being inspired by a true Hanley St Luke’s legend!

Our KS2 pupils enjoyed a beautiful Christingle Worship, and everyone had the chance to make their very own Christingle. A huge thank-you to Pastor Trevor for leading such a special service — and for the oranges and the gorgeous books gifted to our Year 5 and 6 children.

She shared some photos and videos from her recent trip to Moldova with the charity to hand out shoeboxes collected as part of the Operation Christmas Child Appeal. The children represented themselves and the school exceptionally and learnt lots about the charity's mission and values.

This launches our Operation Christmas Child Appeal in School this year and we would love to welcome you to join our efforts.

On Friday 21st November, School Council will be having a Packing Party in School to gather all donations and send them off to the charity in time for Christmas!

Here are some things that children receiving the boxes may find useful:

Clothing
Warm coats or jackets
Gloves and scarves

Toiletries
Toothpaste and toothbrushes
Soap or shower gel

Seasonal Items
Blankets
Hot water bottles

Special Items
Cuddly Toy
Football
Writing Set

Important Restrictions:
No food, candy, liquids, toothpaste, war-related toys, breakable items, or anything that could melt or spill. (These won't pass customs)

Any donations can be sent into school and council members will be collecting daily to gather all items together.

Hanley St Luke’s has achieved the national Computing Quality Mark after evaluating its computing education and demonstrating high-quality provision. The Computing Quality Mark is awarded by the National Centre for Computing Education and recognises excellence of computing education offered by a school as part of their curriculum development through the Computing Quality Framework (CQF).  

Our school completed all seven aspects of the CQF in order to receive the Computing Quality Mark, which recognises achievement in: 

• Leadership and vision  

• Curriculum 

• Teaching, learning and assessment  

• Workforce development  

• Addressing the needs of each pupil 

• Enrichment, destinations and careers  

• Impact and outcomes 

Claire Garside, senior lead facilitator at the NCCE, said:  

“Congratulations to Hanley St Luke’s, on becoming an NCCE ‘Computing Quality Mark’ school! They’re among the schools leading the way to deliver high standards in computing education. The Computing Quality Mark recognises the quality of their provision to ensure all students receive the computing skills and knowledge so valuable for today and in their future careers.”   

The National Centre for Computing Education (NCCE) is funded by the Department for Education and supporting partners, to improve the provision of computing education in England. 

Since the NCCE’s establishment in 2018, it has engaged with 60,000 teachers from more than 20,000 schools in England, created the Teach Computing Curriculum which has seen over one million downloads of lessons, engaged over 1,600 schools with the Computing Quality Framework and supported 54% of students studying AS and A level computer science through the Isaac Computer Science platform.   

A huge well done and thank you to our incredible staff who work so hard to ensure our children at Hanley St Luke’s have a high standard of computing education.

They taught us about different stringed instruments and some of the children even had a go. They took us on a journey looking at pieces of music and the images it conjured up. The children really enjoyed it.

As we know times are hard and at Hanley St Lukes we are here to help. We have many companies that donate and want to support our lovely community. If you are in need of anything please speak to a member of staff. These items are located in the main office and if you feel you need anything please pop in, we would kindly ask that if you are ever able to give back at a later date or donate something then please do so.
