FA Charter Mark
The FA charter mark is an award that recognises excellence in football and is presented by the FA. To obtain this charter mark our school had to demonstrate the provision we make for football. As a school we have excelled in football over the years from when Stanley Matthews (our most famous ex-pupil) played to the present day. Football is taught as a part of the curriculum as well as after school and at lunchtimes. Our school football team has won the Hanley League and pupils have represented Hanley Town and Stoke City, and even signed for Port Vale. All children, from Nursery to Y6 have access to coaching from outside agencies during the year. We are proud to hold this charter mark and it ensures that all of our children receive high quality football coaching.
Active Mark
Active Mark is a Charter mark award dedicated to PE. It recognises progress and excellence in the subject. We achieved this award three years ago. To achieve this award, our school was assessed against strict criteria: Staff development; a broad and balanced curriculum; out of school hours clubs; appropriate policies and schemes of work. This means that the children that attend our school are assured an extremely high quality PE curriculum that brings out the best in them and nurtures their talents.
Healthy School Status
Our school achieved Healthy School Status in 2002. This was the culmination of various initiatives that our school had undertaken over several years. These included ensuring healthy eating, drugs education and positive mental health. The development of our school council also contributed to Healthy School Status. Our school councillors are very active in school as they inform school policy and even interview candidates for teaching posts at our school. We are committed to the general health and well-being of our children and the Healthy School Status recognises this.
